The University of Rhode Island Department of Psychology seeks a tenured professor to serve as Director of Undergraduate Programs, Spring 2026. We’re looking for a dynamic scholar-educator who combines educational research expertise with innovative teaching methods and strong administrative skills.
The successful applicant will provide visionary leadership for our undergraduate programming, which is one of URI’s largest majors with approximately 1,100 undergraduate students in BA and BS programs. Psychology offers exceptional opportunities for student engagement in research and experiential learning. The ideal candidate will be passionate about undergraduate curriculum development and innovation, excel at engaging and integrating students into cutting-edge research using innovative methodologies and committed to creating transformational educational experiences for students from diverse backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities:

- Lead undergraduate program: Working collaboratively with College and Department leadership – plan, develop, and evaluate curriculum; coordinate course staffing.
- Research: Conduct educationally relevant psychology research and scholarship.
- Teach: Undergraduate and graduate courses in your area of expertise.
- Mentor students: Supervise undergraduate research and provide professional development.
- Service: Participate in department, college, and university committees.
- Promote diversity: Support equity and inclusion in all activities.
Required Qualifications:
1. A Ph.D. in Psychology or related field.
2. Qualified for Associate of Full Professor rank.
3. A track record of educationally relevant research/scholarship.
4. Demonstrated strong undergraduate teaching record.
5. Demonstrated leadership experience with undergraduate programs.
6. Demonstrated commitment to student mentoring and DEI principles.
7. Demonstrated excellence in oral communication skills.
8. Demonstrated excellence in written communication skills.
9. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.
10. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
